So, the world wants to know about another artist. I'll tell you world, you're in for a whirlwind of uncertainty. 17 years do not go by easily. Anger, frustration, and pain become the oxygen of the blood. Sometimes, days fly by, breathing sharp gusts of splintered glass. Sometimes, it feels better to simply cower in a lonely corner, rather than face the behemoth of the world outside. The world is a frightening place…
Yet, I believe every one of us has the ability to stand as a testament to the goodness and light that exists. Not everything that is dark is dangerous. Not everyone who cries is alone. I believe in some kind of truth in people, that makes them care for each other, and connects them. I’ve given up on believing in a government that will do this for its country. I fully live by the idea of a world united through its individual people, and not through a political farce.
I am an idealist, and have been criticized for this within my own circle. Ideals may not seem realistic to many people. But is it really that difficult to look at the person before you and say, “I care”? Is it really that hard to drop the gun that will blow away someone’s life, and instead take that person’s arm and say “Forget this”? It’s not as hard as people think. All it needs is a little less greed and self-indulgence on behalf of everyone. Sometimes, I crawl into bed, and cry myself to sleep thinking about how overwhelming that idea is. How impossible it seems for the pain to end. It is…overwhelming. It requires nearly 6 billion people to have hope and to act on that hope.
So that is what really pulls me to certain art. Hope. It is unbelievable how many pieces of artwork there exist, that are beautiful and technically masterful, but that lack emotion. It stirs me inside when I see a piece of art that has a life and a heartbeat, attune to its artist’s. My own art is a little chaotic, as am I. Florals seems to be my photographic center-piece, simply because they are so gentle and pure. Flowers have always represented something of light and beauty. I see much hope in their delicate frame. For they have been with us from the start! They have seen us discover fire, build wheels, make love, and kill each other… And every morning, when they bloom for the world to see, they grow with hope. Hope that one day, it will be a better day. One day, where people won’t have to cower alone, because there’s nothing to cower from.
